Disaster Management and Risk Assessment. The proposed workings are by opencast Mechanized mining method. Underground mining is not proposed. No tailing dam is proposed. Thus high risk accident like land slide, subsidence, fire, seismic activities etc. are not expected. In case of accident a well-equipped First Aid station shall be available at mine site for giving first aid to injured persons.

All types of industries face certain types of hazards which can disrupt normal activities abruptly and lead to disaster like fires, inundation, failure of machinery, explosion, to name a few. Similarly Mechanized opencast mine also have impending dangers or risk accidents like landslides, subsidence flood, inundation, fire, seismic activities, tailing dam failure etc. which need be investigated and addressed. Disaster management planning is formulated with an aim of taking precautionary steps to avert disaster and also to take such action after the disaster which limits the damage to the minimum. Nevertheless, the following natural/industrial problems may be encountered during the mining operation: Filling of the mine pit due to excessive rains/flooding. Slope failures at the mine faces Accident due to plying of mining equipment. In order to take care of above hazards/disasters, the followings measure/ safeguards will be strictly followed: The shallow depth of manual mining activities in open cast mine dose not involves any high risk accident. Emergency plan is proposed for quick evacuation. During heavy rainfall the mining activities are closed. The complete mining operation will be carried under the management and control of experience and qualified Mines Manager. Working of mines as per approved plans. All safety precautions and preventions of MMR should be strictly followed during all mining operations. Regular maintenance and testing of all mining equipment as per manufacturer's guidelines. Provision of adequate capacity pumps for pumping out water from the mining pit with standby arrangements. Checking and regular maintenance of garland drainage bunds. Entry of unauthorized persons should be prohibited. Periodic checking of worthiness of fire fighting and first aid provision in the mining area. Training and refresher courses for all the employees. Cleaning of mining faces regularly. As a part of disaster management plan, a rescue team should be formed by imparting specialized training to the selected mining staff.
