Double Diamond Model Sample Clauses

Double Diamond Model. ‌ One of the most well-known design thinking models is the Double Diamond or 4D Model of the British Council (Design Council, 2012), the schematic representation is to be found in figure 2. Figure 2: Representation of The Double Diamond or 4D Model of the British Council (Design Council, 2012) The model consists of four stages: discover, define, develop and deliver. The emphasis lies mainly on the alternately diverging and converging character when one steps through the four phases from left to right. In the first diverging discovering phase the design thinking team needs to broaden their horizons by searching for new opportunities and markets. The data collected along the way is then being reviewed based on feasibility, exposing possible routes that they could follow. Trying to make this concrete and converge to one final route is done in the defining stage. More specifically, a project is chosen, as well as how it will be managed. In the next stage, all kinds of design tools are developed, tested, and applied by multidisciplinary teams to eventually create a final concept. Here again, it is necessary to think broadly in order to take all possibilities into account. Moreover, the financial feasibility of the project is also examined during this phase. In the last step, the final concept is being tested, a prototype is replaced by a real product, and is finally delivered to the organization (Tschimmel, 2012).
