Education on NRM Sample Clauses

Education on NRM. Mozambique Almost half of the population in Mozambique is under the age of 14. In 2008, the net school enrolment rate was 81.3% and Mozambique will potentially meet the Millennium Development Goal No. 2 (MDGs), which is that by 2015, 100% of children of primary school age attend school. While attendance has increased in the past couple of decades, educational quality improvements are one of the biggest challenges. Also, skill training and strengthening of the technical capacity of students is a top priority (UN Mozambique 2008). In Mozambique, it is quite difficult to access data about the implementation and progress of the national initiatives on environmental education. The Ministry of Coordination of Environmental Affairs (MICOA) is among others responsible for awareness raising on matters of environmental concern and is representing Mozambique in the regional network for environmental education under Southern Africa Development Council (SADC). The ministry is responsible of celebrating the annual International Environmental Day June 5, and is the frontrunner behind the Environmental Clubs (EC) introduced to all the provinces. In 2009, the government furthermore launched the national campaign "For a Green, Beautiful and Prosperous Mozambique" and “One child, one tree”. Initiatives such as planting new trees, whereby each village should have its own community forest and each pupil should plant at least one fruit tree a year. The programs were not designed to simply produce more fruit, firewood and building materials, but were intended to induce in citizens a fondness for nature and the natural environment. However, there is very little evidence of these campaigns being executed. The Provincial Department for Environmental Activities (DPCAA) in Cabo Xxxxxxx knows about the campaigns but there is very little evidence of actual implementation. Nepal
