Personal fall arrest systems are required when working from an articulating or extendible boom, swing stages, or suspended platform. In addition, personal fall arrest systems are required when operating other equipment such as scissor lifts if the work platform is capable of being positioned outside the wheelbase. The need for tying-off in such equipment is to prevent ejection of the employee from the equipment during raising, lowering, or travel. Fall protection must comply with 29 CFR 1926.500, Subpart M, and ANSI A10.32.

Protect employees from fall hazards as specified in EM 385-1-1, section 21.   • PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND APPAREL 16.01 The Employer will furnish employees with all necessary personal protective equipment (including safety helmets, safety glasses, gloves etc.) and rain gear if and when required.
