Fire Chief. The employee may then present the written grievance form to the fire chief, or designee, within twenty (20) work days of the event(s) giving rise to the grievance, or within twenty work days from when they reasonably should have been discovered by such employee. The Chief will meet with the Grievant and respond in writing within five (5) work days of receipt of the grievance. If the Grievant does not refer the grievance to Step 2 of the grievance procedure within ten (10) work days of the Chief’s response, the grievance shall be considered to be satisfactorily settled. In the absence of the Fire Chief or designee, the grievance “clock” may be stopped by the City for no more than ten (10) work days, then the grievance is referred directly to Step 2. City will coordinate this process with the grievant.
