Grievance Procedure Complaint Stage. If an Employee or the Union has a complaint that they wish to resolve through an informal process they shall advise their Manager or other appropriate workplace Department Head of the nature of the complaint within five (5) working days of when the incident giving rise to the complaint would reasonably have been known to the employee. The Employee has the right to be accompanied by a Union representative and the Manager may be accompanied by a person of their choice at any meeting arranged within five (5) working days of the Manager being notified to discuss the complaint. Any meetings arranged shall be informal in nature, and their purpose shall be to make the parties aware of the complaint and to give both parties the opportunity to resolve the issue(s). If the immediate supervisor is in the bargaining unit, the grievance shall be made to the manager, or if the manager of the supervisor is the head of the department, step 1 shall be omitted and the grievance shall proceed directly to the head of the department at step 2.
