Common use of Grievance Step 1 Clause in Contracts

Grievance Step 1. The employee is required to file a written grievance with their supervisor and the Director, Human Resources. A grievance must contain a complete and full statement of the difference pursuant to a specific clause of this Agreement and must state the particular relief requested on behalf of the grievor. Grievances shall be submitted on a form satisfactory to the Union and the Employer. Grievances not submitted within five (5) work days of the action giving rise to the grievance or five (5) work days from the time that the action should reasonably have been known to the grievor shall not be considered. By mutual agreement between the Employer and the Union, a grievance regarding the suspension or dismissal of an employee may commence at Step 2 of the grievance procedure. At the request of either party, a meeting shall be held at this Step. If a meeting is held, each party may have in attendance those persons (not to exceed two (2) in number) whom it feels will assist in resolving the difference. However, the Parties will inform each other no later than two (2) work days prior to the meeting whom they plan on having in attendance. If a meeting is requested at this step, it shall be held within five (5) work days of receipt of the written request for a meeting. The supervisor shall provide a written response to the grievor within ten (10) work days of receipt of the written grievance or within ten (10) work days of the meeting if one is held.
