Common use of Holiday Observed- Part-time Employees Clause in Contracts

Holiday Observed- Part-time Employees. When a holiday is observed by the County, each part time employee is entitled to observe the holiday in the same ratio as his/her number of position hours bears to forty (40) hours, multiplied by 8 (hours), without a reduction in pay. For example, a part time employee whose position hours are 24 per week is entitled to 4.8 hours off work on a holiday (24/40 multiplied by 8 = 4.8). Hereafter, the number of hours produced by this calculation will be referred to as the “Part Time employee’s holiday hours.” When the number of hours in a part time employee’s scheduled work day that falls on a holiday is more than the employee’s “Part Time employee’s holiday hours,” the employee must use non-sick leave accruals for the difference between the employee’s scheduled work hours and the employee’s “Part Time employee’s holiday hours.” If the employee does not have any non-sick leave accrual balances, leave without pay (AWOP) will be authorized.
