Common use of Holidays to be Observed Clause in Contracts

Holidays to be Observed. (a) The following shall be observed by the Employer as paid holidays for Employees: New Year’s Day Civic Holiday Family Day Labour Day Good Friday Thanksgiving Day Easter Monday Remembrance Day Victoria Day Christmas Day Canada Day Boxing Day Plus any other day proclaimed hereafter by the Federal or Provincial Government shall be recognized as an additional holiday. (F/T) (b) In addition to the holidays listed above, each Employee of the Bargaining Unit shall be allowed one (1) additional holiday to be known as a Floating Holiday and granted effective January 2nd. (For administrative purposes only - the entitlement to use January 1st as the Floating Holiday will remain in place). The date and time for taking the Floating Holiday shall be mutually agreed upon by the Employer and the Employee. (F/T) (c) Employees will be allowed to take lieu days upon mutual agreement between the Employer and the Employee. All lieu days not taken in the calendar year, in excess of five (5), would be paid out at the end of the year. (P/T) (d) In addition to the holidays listed in (a) above, each part-time Employee shall be allowed January 1st in lieu of the Floating Holiday enjoyed by full-time Employees. Part-time Employees shall be allowed to accumulate one (1) floating holiday for emergency use should they qualify for the stat in any given year. Stats not used in that calendar year would be paid out at the end of the year. The Employee must request that the stat be banked prior to the applicable pay period. (F/T, P/T) (e) It is understood that for Employees whose regular shift begins at 2300, the twenty-four (24) hour period for a paid holiday for time keeping purposes begins at 2300 the day preceding the holiday to 2300 the day of the holiday.
