HOURS OF WORK, OVERTIME AND HOLIDAY PAY. It is recognized by both parties that employees may be required to work in excess of eight (8) hours in any one day or forty (40) hours in any one week, but no employee will be required to work an unreasonable number of hours. The normal work week for all employees except Engineers and three (3) An employee shall be paid one and one-half (1%) times his regular hourly rate of pay for all time worked in excess of eight (8) hours in a day or in excess of forty (40) hours in a week or on Saturday. An employee shall be paid two (2) times his regular hourly rate of pay for all time worked on Sundays or Paid Holidays. There shall be no accumulating of overtime premiums for the same hours worked but the highest single premium shall apply under the provisions of the preceding paragraphs (a) and of this Article. Notwithstanding (a) above, a Sanitation or a Maintenance Department employee shall be paid one and one-half (1%) times his regular rate of pay for all time worked in excess of eight (8) hours in a day, except when a period of twelve (12) hours exists between the completion of the first shift and the commencement of the second shift in the same day unless otherwise mutually agreed. The following shall be observed as Paid Holidays: New Year's Day Labour Day Good Friday Than ivi Day Victoria Day Christmas Day Canada Day Boxing Day Civic Holiday Remembrance Day Heritage Day (3rd Monday in February) All paid holidays shall be observed between Monday and Friday inclusive. Employees ordered to report for work shall be furnished four (4) hours work, or pay at their appropriate rate in lieu of work, providing they report within fifteen (15) minutes of the time designated. The four (4) hour guarantee will be reduced by the amount of time late in excess of fifteen (15) minutes to a maximum of one (1) hour. The four (4) hour guarantee will be waived should the employee report late in excess of one (Ih)our. Adequate relief for personal needs will be provided. A ten (IO) minute break will be scheduled as near the mid-point in each half of the shift as possible. Employees working in excess of nine (9) continuous hours in any one day will be entitled to one (I)additional relief period of ten minutes. Employeesworking in excess of twelve (12) continuous hours will be entitled to an additional relief period of ten (IO) minutes. Consideration will be given in each Departmentto the distance from the Department to the cafeteria and washroom corridors that employees must travel to get to these areas. Fair consideration is to be given to employees who must remove gloves and aprons and wash hands upon leaving or re-entering their Department. The intent of this language is to ensure employees receive a full ten minute break from the time they enter the employee welfare areas, (i.e. washrooms and cafeteria corridor areas). Employees shall not be required to work over five (5) hours without a meal period, except that employees may work six (6) hours in order to finish the day's work.

If any of the above mentioned holidays fall on a Sunday, they shall be observed on the following Monday. In the case of holidays which fall back to back (Example: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) the Company and Union shall meet for the purpose of agreeing to the calendar days to be selected as the paid holidays. In the event that the employee's birth date is the same as one of the other designated holidays, he or she will have the option of observing the Birthday holiday the workday preceding the other holiday or the workday following the other holiday. If the employee's birthday falls during his or her designated vacation period, for the first year of the Contract, he or she will have the option of observing the Birthday holiday the work day preceding the vacation period or the work day following the vacation period. If an employee wishes to take the Birthday holiday on some other day then the exact day of this birthday, or the Friday or Monday such a request to his supervisor, who may, at the discretion of the Company, approve such a request, provided the request is made seven (7) days prior to his or her birth date. If the change is approved, the employee will receive straight time pay for work performed on the employee's birth date. Twice the employee's regular hourly rate will be paid for all time worked in excess of work performed Sundays. SECTION 2. Although no work is performed thereon, employees shall receive eight (8) hours in a day or in excess of forty (40) hours in a week or on Saturday.
