Include the formation of a collaborative Community Outreach Committee on healthy eating promotion in the CBA. As previously discussed, signing a CBA with a public health care institution presents a unique opportunity to negotiate community health benefits. Given the MUHC’s healthcare mandate, negotiating hospital support for healthy eating promotion may be particularly fruitful. A frequent buyer program, similar to Fairview Hospital’s fruit cards, for seasonal, healthy cafeteria choices could encourage hospital staff and patients to eat health and more sustainably. New Milford’s implication in school gardening and cooking classes suggest another way the MUHC can support the development of community food systems. The NDG Food Depot The Food Depot aims to provide emergency food services while also developing community capacity and long‐term food security. Programs include: Emergency Food Baskets Information and Referral Services Collective produce‐buying group ‐ "The Good Food Box" Cooking Programs Activities that break isolation and encourage social integration Sensitization initiatives that focus on issues of poverty and hunger Work programs that encourage civic engagement and build self‐ reliance Zero Food Waste Networks The Lunchbox Workshops Part food security program, part education program, these cooking classes for grades 4 and 5 teach children about nutrition and leave them with a prepared lunch for the following day. The MUHC and CIQ should initiate an additional committee to explore and develop local outreach efforts that promote the adoption of healthy and sustainable eating habits. This committee should involve MUHC administration, staff nutritionists and local organisations engaged in similar endeavours (see Box 5).
