Induction onto Medications and Coordinated Treatment. A person with opioid use disorder, and/or who is a survivor of an opioid overdose, may immediately experience withdrawal symptoms. Untreated symptoms often result in a recurrence of using opioids, leaving the person vulnerable to a fatal overdose. Symptoms of withdrawal can be managed with FDA-approved medications used to treat OUD. This strategy provides induction onto medications used to treat opioid use disorder by the Grantee for up to four weeks and referral to longer-term treatment services from a licensed provider.
