Internetwork Facilities. The physical connection of separate pieces of equipment, transmission facilities, etc., within, between and among networks, for the transmission and routing of exchange service and exchange access. A part of the SS7 protocol that defines call setup messages and call takedown messages. Refers to an end office switch connection that has been programmed to treat the circuit as a local line connected to an ordinary telephone station set. Line side connections offer only those transmission and signaling features appropriate for a connection between an end office and an ordinary telephone set. A geographic area for the provision and administration of communications service; i.e., intraLATA or interLATA.
