Language Proficiency Allowance Where the Secretary determines that there is an identifiable and continuing need for the utilisation of particular language skills in the course of the Department’s business the Secretary may authorise payment of Language Proficiency Allowance to an employee required to utilise such language skills. Where approved by the Secretary the employee will be paid an allowance at the annual rate of $1,592.10.
