Leave for Academic Study. a. Leave requests for academic study, related to specific teaching areas must be submitted to the Human Resource office by March 1 prior to the school year for which the leave is requested. A teacher must have three consecutive years of employment in the district to be eligible to apply. Request for leave will be accompanied by a general plan which must include at least twenty-four (24) semester hours coursework for the year or twelve (12) semester hours for the semester the teacher is on the leave for academic study, unless otherwise approved. Consecutive leaves shall not be granted for more then a total of 2 years. This plan must be approved by the Superintendent prior to submission to the Board. The leave shall be for one complete semester or one complete school year. b. Upon return from the leave the teacher must submit proof of successful completion of twenty-four (24) or twelve (12) semester hours of coursework whichever is applicable no later than September 30th.
