Leave for Public Duties. The Board recognizes the right of employees to participate in public affairs. Upon request to the Secretary-Treasurer, an employee shall be granted leave of absence without pay to allow that employee to stand as a candidate in federal, provincial or municipal elections. An employee who is elected to federal or provincial office shall, upon request, be granted leave of absence without pay and without seniority accumulation during the term of office. An employee who is elected to municipal office may be allowed leave of absence without pay during the term of office. Such leaves shall not be unreasonably withheld.
