Leave of Absence for Union Duties. The Company agrees that leave of absence without pay, but with maintenance of seniority and pension rights, to which they would otherwise be entitled, shall be granted to a limited number of employees in order to carry out the proper administration of this Agreement. 18.07 The Company will pay into a special fund two cent (2¢) per hour per employee for all hours paid, for the purpose of providing paid education leave (P.E.L.). This paid education leave will be for the purpose of upgrading the employee’s skills in all aspects of Trade Union functions. Such monies are to be paid on a quarterly basis into a trust fund established by the National Union, CEP and shall not include sent by the Company to the Secretary Treasurer, C.E.P., 000 Xxxxxxx Xxx. Members of the bargaining unit, selected by the Union to attend such courses, will be granted a leave of absence without pay for twenty (20) days of class time, plus travel time worked which is less than onewhere necessary, in any twelve (12) month period from the first day of leave. Employees on paid leave of absence will continue to accrue seniority and benefits during such leave. Further, when a single course extends beyond twenty (20) working days up to a maximum of forty (40) working days, or, where a multi-half hourpart course requires up to forty (40) working days, such extended leave may be granted by the Company upon written request by the Union. Payments for periods worked Where leave in excess of one-half hour twenty (20) working days is granted, the employee will continue to accrue seniority and continuous service. Leaves of absence referred to above will be paid for, granted providing other employees in the bargaining unit are available and qualified to perform the job being vacated because of the leave.
