Common use of Leave of Absence - Public Office Clause in Contracts

Leave of Absence - Public Office. The Company will grant leave of absence for campaign purposes to candidates for federal, provincial, or municipal elective public office for a period of up to and including eight weeks, provided the Company is given due notice in writing of twenty (20) calendar days, unless the need for such application could not reasonably be foreseen. Employees elected or appointed to federal, provincial or municipal offices shall be granted as much leave as is necessary during the term of such office. Municipal office holders where the term of the public office is served intermittently, shall give the Company reasonable notice for absences from work for conducting municipal business. The employee who obtains this leave of absence shall return to the Company within thirty (30) calendar days after completion of public office. Only Company seniority shall accumulate during the period of an employee's leave of absence under this Article.
