Maternity/Parental/Family Medical Leave. 10.2.1 Maternity Leave is defined as the physical state of pregnancy of an employee, commencing eight (8) months before the estimated date of childbirth, as determined by a physician, and ending six (6) months after the date of such birth. In the event of an employee’s pregnancy, the employee may apply for leave without pay at any time during the period stated above and the Employer may approve such leave at its option, and such leave may be no longer than one (1) year. 10.2.2 Parental leave shall be granted to employees for the birth or adoption of a child in accordance with applicable state laws. 10.2.3 Effective February 1, 1994, leaves of absence shall be granted as required under the federal law known as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) so long as it remains in force. The Human Resource Department provides procedures.
