Meal Breaks and Rest Periods. a. Except when required for urgent or emergency work and except as provided in (c) below, no midwife shall be required to work for more than five hours continuously without being allowed a meal break of not less than half an hour. There will be only one meal break of not less than half an hour during a 10-hour shift. b. A midwife working a five to six hour shift may forego the meal break, which would be unpaid, and such a meal break will not be deducted unless more than six hours has been worked. This needs to be recorded on the timesheet.
