Operator's Seat. (1) The minimum distance between the steering wheel and the backrest of the operator's seat is 11 inches. (2) The operator's seat shall: (a) Be rigidly positioned; (b) Have vertical adjustment and fore and aft adjustment of not less than 4 inches, without the use of tools or other devices; (c) Be fastened to the floor with bolts, nuts, and washers or flanged-head nuts; and (d) Be covered with Fire-Block material. As of January 1, 2014, all vehicles procured for use in this State shall be constructed with materials that enable it to meet all the criteria of the school bus seat upholstery fire block test established by the National School Transportation Specifications and Procedures adopted at the most recent National Congress on School Transportation.

Operator's Seat. The operators’ seat shall be upholstered with heavy duty long wearing Black Fabric. The operator's seat shall be comfortable and adjustable so that persons ranging in size from the 95th percentile male to the 5th percentile female may operate the Trolley. The operator's seat back height, measured from the point of intersection of the uncompressed seat cushion with the seat back to the top of the back, shall be minimum 23 inches. While seated, the operator shall be able to make seat adjustments by hand without complexity, excessive effort, or being pinched. Adjustment mechanisms shall hold the adjustments and shall not be subject to inadvertent changes. The operator's seat shall be cushioned supplementary by an air cylinder or air diaphragm. These devices may also provide the seat height adjustments. The operator’s seat shall include the following features: Three chamber air adjustable upper and lower lumbar supports Locking slides shall have an air operated auxiliary release A four way adjustable headrest with three locking positions of vertical adjustment and overall 40° of tilt The seat shall adjust in height from a minimum of 16 inches to a maximum of 22 inches. The seat pan shall adjust in its slope from no less than plus 8° (rearward "bucket seat" incline), to no less than minus 0° (forward slope). The seat-base shall travel horizontally a minimum of 9 inches. The angle formed between the seat back and the seat cushion shall be adjustable in the range of 80° to 110°. The seat shall be appropriately designed and dampened to support a minimum operator weight of 500 pounds. The suspension shall be capable of dampening adjustment. Dampening of the operator’s seat pneumatic suspension system shall be provided by two shock absorbers. Two resilient bumpers shall be provided to prevent metal to metal contact in the event the seat was to bottom. Integrated Shoulder and Lap Belt: Seat shall be provided with ALR (Automatic Locking Retractor). Seat shall have integral tether straps that allows seat to meet FMVSS 207/210 pull test. Seat systems shall allow operator to move seat front to back without having to loosen the belts. Restraint system belts, minimum 70 inches of extension at the waist, shall be Orange and shall be stored in an automatic retractor.
