Common use of Purpose and Length of Leave Clause in Contracts

Purpose and Length of Leave. The College recognizes that it is in the interests of employees and the College that Regular Part-Time Employees be given the opportunity by the College to pursue developmental activities to further academic or technical skills where such activities will enhance the ability of the employee upon return to employment with the College. A leave application should normally be for between one (1) to twelve (12) months. Regular Part-Time Employees who have completed six (6) years of service with the College may apply. The College may consider: the benefit to the College and to the employee of the leave; whether a suitable substitute for the employee is available; length of the leave; and the frequency and duration of prior developmental leaves granted to the employee. Approval of the time off for developmental purposes shall not be unreasonably denied.
