Retention of Benefits. An employee will not earn sick pay or vacation credits while on a leave of absence. An employee on a leave of absence except for maternity or paternity leave as covered in Article IX Section 9.3 leave will be required to pay the cost of the insurance benefits provided in Article in order to keep these benefits in full force and effect during the period of leave. Arrangements for payments of such costs through normal deductions or otherwise must be made with the County’s Payroll Office prior to departure on the leave. For the failure to make such arrangements the Employer may cancel insurance benefits, which will be reinstated upon the employee’s return to work, subject to such waiting period and other rules and regulations as may be applicable to the insurance plan
