Review of File. 1. Each teacher shall have the right upon written request to review the contents of his or her personnel files. The teacher shall be entitled to have a certified representative (from within the system) of his choosing accompany him during such review. If the teacher desires single copies of any of the contents so examined in his or her file it shall be permitted upon written request and at the expense of the employee. 2. Confidential credentials, letters of reference from universities, individuals, or previous employers are specifically exempted from review unless the Board or any of its agents, supervisors, or administrators rest any decision or discipline in any form on the contents of such confidential credentials or said letters of reference, and under those circumstances the teacher shall have a full opportunity to examine such documents and offer such explanation as he or she deems necessary. Materials placed in the teacher’s personnel file shall be read and signed by the teacher (note the exceptions above). Such a signature merely acknowledges it has been read and does not necessarily indicate agreement with its contents. The teacher shall have the right to answer any materials filed and the answer shall be attached to a file at the time of its inclusion in the personnel file.
