Common use of Sign-up Clause in Contracts

Sign-up. (a) There will be three (3) Sign-ups each year. Posted as follows: January - April Sign-up The first Sunday which coincides with the beginning of the first bi-weekly pay period in January. May - August Sign-up The first Sunday which coincides with a bi-weekly pay period and closest to the end of Xxxxx University school year. September - December Sign-up The Sunday prior to Labour Day. This change will take place in 2005. (b) The regular Sign-up shall be posted five (5) weeks in advance of the effective date unless otherwise agreed by the Commission and the Union. Operators shall begin signing Monday of the fourth (4th) week preceding the effective date of the schedule. Should an Operator fail to sign in the allotted time, his name shall be by-passed and a selection shall be made from the remaining unsigned work when he reports to sign. (c) There shall be no reduction in the number of, or hours of signed assignments during any Sign-up. Changes may only take place on the next Sign-up. (d) Changes in assignments shall be discussed with the Union Representative, prior to making the changes. (e) If an Operator is to be absent during the signing of the Sign-up, he shall leave a written choice of assignments with an Officer of the Commission. When it becomes his turn to sign, his selection shall be made by an Officer of the Commission, in accordance with assignments open and choice of assignments made. (f) An Operator who signs for an assignment, unless displaced in the application of seniority rules, must remain on such assignment until the next regular Sign-up, unless mutually agreed between the Commission and the Union Representative. (g) Should any assignments fail to be signed, starting with the bottom of the seniority list, the assignments shall be filled by appointment of the Commission. (h) The first Operator listed on a specific date shall be allowed 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.- Second 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. - and one hour intervals until 11:00 p.m. to a maximum of sixteen (16) Operators per day. (i) Floater and vacation sign-ups to be signed not later than one week after the regular sign-up.

Sign-up. (a) There will Each employee shall have the right to select their work in accordance with seniority. Employees who are unavailable and fail to submit a selection slip or contact the Union shall have their work signed by a Union member during the sign-up. The sign-up for runs/shifts shall be posted three (3) Sign-ups each year. Posted times yearly as follows, unless the format is changed by mutual agreement: January - April Sign-up The • On the first Monday of April, to take effect the first Sunday which coincides with the beginning of in May; • On the first bi-weekly pay period Monday of August, to take effect the Sunday of Labour Day week; and • On the first Monday of December, to take effect the first Sunday in January. (b) The regular Signfollowing work areas shall sign separately: • Mobility Operators; • Mobility Dispatchers; and • Operators. c) The Board period sign-ups shall be conducted by one (1) member of the Union working ten (10) hours per day for: Any change to this schedule shall be mutually agreed to by the Union Executive and Transit Services. d) The following sign-up information shall be posted five two (52) weeks in advance prior to signing: • Run information with start and finish times; • Break times; • Rotation schedule; • Run Schedule; and • Shift value. e) When an operator leaves the employment of Guelph Transit, the open piece of work shall go to the Spareboard until the next sign- up. f) Employees shall have the right to sign according to their seniority or upon written application, bypass to a less senior position. g) Operators Commencing or Returning From Long-Term Disability i) When an operator is approved for Long-Term Disability or when Transit Management and the Union agree the employee will not be returning: i. Their work shall go to the Spareboard for the balance of the effective date unless otherwise agreed by the Commission and the Union. Operators shall begin signing Monday of the fourth (4th) week preceding the effective date of the schedule. (f) An Operator who signs for an assignment, unless displaced in the application of seniority rules, must remain on such assignment until the next regular Sign-up, unless mutually agreed between the Commission and the Union Representative. (g) Should any assignments fail to be signed, starting with created at the bottom of the seniority listSpareboard until the completion of that board period, except when the assignments existing complement of operators, is at or over the number of signed runs. No position shall be filled by appointment created at the bottom of the CommissionSpareboard in that situation. (h) iii. The first Operator listed operator on a specific date Long-Term Disability shall be allowed 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.- Second 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. - and one hour intervals until 11:00 p.m. to a maximum of sixteen (16) Operators per day. (i) Floater and vacation removed from the sign-up for subsequent sign-ups until they return to be signed not later than one week driving duties. j) When an operator returns from Long-Term Disability: i. They shall assume their seniority on the Spareboard until the next sign-up if returning after the regular start of a board period. ii. The additional Spareboard position shall be carried on future sign-upups until eliminated through attrition.

When it becomes his his/her turn to sign, his their selection shall be made by an Officer of the Commission, in accordance with assignments open and choice of assignments made. (f) An Operator who signs for an assignment, unless displaced in the application of seniority rules, must remain on such assignment until the next regular Sign-up, unless mutually agreed between the Commission and the Union Representative. (g) Should any assignments fail to be signed, starting with the bottom of the seniority list, the assignments shall be filled by appointment of the Commission. Signing will take place Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays. (i) Floater and vacation sign-ups to be signed not later than one week after the regular sign-up. (j) The Transit Commission may create a sign-up for the assignments without guarantee and/or thirteen hour spread in accordance to seniority during exams and breaks in December/January and April. In addition to the assigned work not affected by Xxxxx University the assigned work will consist of the following: Vacations, lieu and performance days, scheduled training. The reduced guarantee sign-up will have no effect on regular assigned crews or the spareboard guarantee. Reduced guarantee crews can be utilized for scheduled training during reading week in February of each year. A sign-up shall be posted by mid-November. (k) Operators signing for spareboard assignments shall choose their off days by seniority before they are posted.
