Sole Source Justification. The BOND Rxm staining module is manufactured and sold by Leica Microsystems. The repair requires personnel who are familiar with the instrument and have had training by Leica. Leica also does not sell their parts to third parties and if a vendor was able to be found, there would be a delay in repairing because the vendor would have to order the part from Leica. The service agreement also includes unlimited technical telephone and web support. To find other vendors who also repair Leica instruments, a Google search was performed. No vendors appeared on the search. The MIB has had Leica as the service vendor since the instrument was initially purchased in 2017. Sole Source Justification. BD Biosciences is the only contractor authorized and capable of providing service and parts to its proprietary systems. It was reached out to fellow scientists at the NIH for their recommendations, researched online at GSA Advantage, and XXXx.xxx to identify possible 3rd party vendors. It was determined that BD Biosciences is the sole manufacturer of this equipment and the most qualified vendor to perform factory authorized maintenance and repair of the instrument. Original manufacturer service is required to avoid nullifying the warranty. Any equipment failure would adversely affect NCI/NIH clinical center patients and their optimal care. Sole Source Justification. Sartorius is the sole provider of service for their Octet line of BLI instruments. Octet BLI instruments are complex lab research products that are only serviced by fully trained Sartorius Engineers who have received specialized factory training. Sartorius Octet BLI instruments are not serviced by any 3rd party provider. Sartorius does not sell parts to maintain or repair Octet BLI instruments to any 3rd party providers. Therefore, only Sartorius can meet original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
