SPECIAL RULES FOR MATERNITY OR PATERNITY ABSENCES. Except as specified below, the period of time between (a) the first anniversary of the first day of a Maternity or Paternity Absence of an Employee and (b) the second anniversary of the first day of the absence shall not be counted as a Period of Severance or as Eligibility Service or Vesting Service. However, if the Employee returns to active employment with an Affiliated Employer prior to the expiration of twelve months following the earlier of (1) the date of his Separation From Service or (2) the second anniversary of the first day of his Maternity or Paternity Absence, he shall be granted Eligibility Service and Vesting Service for the entire period of his Maternity or Paternity Absence.
