Common use of Standby Duty and Telephone Consultation Clause in Contracts

Standby Duty and Telephone Consultation. (a) Standby Duty (IS&S Department, Fire Prevention and Safety Department) An employee scheduled on standby, whether or not he/she carries a pocket pager, will be paid two (2) hours at straight-time for the twenty-four (24) hour period commencing daily at 08:00 Monday to Thursday, inclusive, three (3) hours at straight-time for the twenty-four (24) hour period commencing at 08:00 Friday and four (4) hours at straight-time for the twenty-four (24) hour period commencing at 08:00 on a Saturday, Sunday or statutory holiday. Where possible, standby will be signed up on a voluntary basis with schedules posted at least ninety-six (96) hours in advance. Should an employee be given less than ninety-six (96) hours’ notice of standby duty, he/she will be under no compulsion to accept such duty. No employee will be compelled to accept standby on two (2) consecutive weekends or on two (2) consecutive holiday weekends.
