Common use of Substitution (Trading) of Time Clause in Contracts

Substitution (Trading) of Time. If a member, with the approval of his or her supervisor, and solely at the member's option, agrees to substitute during scheduled work hours for another member of the same rank, the hours the member works as a substitute shall be excluded in the calculation of hours for which the member is entitled to overtime. The Division is permitted, but not required, to keep a record of the hours of the substitute work. Members, with the approval of the Chief, and solely at the member's option, shall be permitted to trade shifts with members of the same rank. Approval for shift trades may be reasonably withheld. The request must be in writing and signed by both members.
