Shift Exchange. The Employer and the Union agree that shift exchanges are a useful process to allow employees more flexibility and improved work/life balance. Employees within an institution who have the same job classification will be allowed to exchange full shifts for positions in which they are qualified. The shift exchange process will not be used to circumvent the bid system or the supervisory chain of command. Shift exchanges will be in accordance with the following: A. Request for shift exchanges will be submitted seven (7) calendar days in advance of the exchange, when practicable. B. Requests for shift exchanges will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The requested shift exchange is voluntary, and is agreed to in writing by both employees, and approved in writing by the supervisor(s). Requests for shift exchanges will be submitted to the appropriate Appointing Authority or designee for approval. X. Xxxxx exchanges may be denied. If denied, the employee will be provided the reason(s) in writing. D. Employees will not submit requests for shift exchanges which would result in overtime. Each employee will be considered to have worked their regular schedule. E. For shift exchanges that occur on an employee’s designated holiday, the employee who is regularly scheduled to work on that holiday will receive the holiday compensation, regardless of who physically worked on that day. F. The failure of an employee who has exchanged shifts to work the agreed upon shift without appropriate cause may be a basis for disciplinary action.

Shift exchanges must occur within the same pay period. Shift exchanges will not result in the payment of overtime. Each employee will be considered to have worked their regular schedule. E. Shift Exchange. Section 1: Effective January 1, 1992, members of the bargaining unit, except probationary employees in training, shall have the right to request a run/shift exchange by means of a form provided by the County, which both parties to the exchange must complete and sign. The completed form must be presented to the Superintendent or designee for approval. Requests for exchanges must be made seventy-two (72) hours in advance. In the case of a documentable emergency, approval may be granted with less than seventy-two (72) hours notice at the discretion of the Superintendent. Section 2: The maximum number of exchanges allowable for any bargaining unit member shall not exceed five (5) exchanges per calendar year for an employee initiating the request. Run/shift exchange cannot be used in conjunction with a scheduled vacation. Section 3: Any employee on duty by virtue of a run/shift exchange shall be entitled to the same benefits, privileges, and protections and shall assume the same responsibilities as on-duty personnel. Repayment of a run/shift exchange is the responsibility of the employee. Section 4: A replacement who leaves work early because of illness shall have the sick leave deducted from his/her bank and not from the bank accrued by the employee originally assigned to the run/shift. Otherwise, payroll computations will not be affected by run/shift exchanges. Section 5: A run/shift exchange constitutes an even exchange and neither party becomes eligible for overtime pay because of the exchange. Each employee will be credited as if they had worked their normal schedule. Section 6: An employee who abuses the procedures described in this Article shall be subject to the loss of the right to run/shift exchange for the period of one (1) year. Any member of the bargaining unit who agrees to run/shift exchange, but reports sick for the agreed exchange must provide doctor's lines to verify the illness. All sick reporting or booking off a run must be done in accordance with existing policies. An employee who fails to provide doctor's lines or otherwise fails to report to work the agreed run/shift, shall be subject to disciplinary action. Members of the bargaining unit are encouraged to police the practice themselves with the operational needs of the County, as well as the practical needs of their bargaining unit members in mind. Shift Exchange. Employees may mutually agree to exchange days, shifts, or hours of work with the approval of their supervisor provided such change does not result in the payment of overtime or penalty pay, or is a disruption of the normal routine of duties. Shift Exchange. An employee who requires a change of a scheduled shift in accordance with Article 15.05, must submit a completed request form to his/her Manager no less than four (4) days prior to the requested change. The request for such change shall be subject to signed approval by the Manager. Requests outside of this timeframe will be considered by Management. Such requests will not be unreasonably denied. . Such requests shall be done through: (a) a shift exchange form co-signed by the employee willing to exchange shift(s). (b) a day off request form co-signed by another employee willing to work the shift. (c) The replacement employee shall not be entitled to overtime pay for such work. (d) The employee initiating the shift exchange shall first offer the opportunity to a full or part-time nurse prior to offering to a casual nurse.

Shift Exchange. Provided that a minimum of twenty four (24) hours advance written notice is given, employees may make a request to exchange shifts with a co-worker. Both employees must have the skill and ability to perform each others’ work assignment. Preference will be given to those in the same group within the affected classification. The exchange must be approved by the supervisor(s) affected and the Union Chairperson. Attendance concerns will not be a prohibiting factor in granting approval. An employee who fails to report for the exchanged shift will be subject to any disciplinary action that the Company deems necessary in the circumstances. It is understood that a shift exchange initiated by one or more employees will not result in an increase in costs to the Company, including but not limited to overtime and training. The employees changing shifts will assume all rights and responsibilities of the other person save and except seniority.
