Common use of Union or Elected Office Leave Clause in Contracts

Union or Elected Office Leave. ‌ Any employee who is elected or selected for a full-time position with the Union or any body with which the Union is affiliated, or who is elected to public office shall be granted leave of absence without pay by the Employer for a period of one (1) calendar year from date of appointment. Such leave shall be renewed each year during their term of office. Seniority shall continue to accrue during such leave. On return to work an employee shall be placed in their former position if possible or a similar position. The Employer shall grant leave without pay to the President, Vice-Presidents, Secretary-Treasurer, Recording Secretary and Unit Chairs of Local 523 to carry out necessary Union business providing adequate replacements are available.
