Work Before Shift Start Clause Samples

The "Work Before Shift Start" clause defines the rules and expectations regarding employees performing work-related tasks prior to their officially scheduled shift times. Typically, this clause clarifies whether such pre-shift work is permitted, under what circumstances it must be authorized, and how compensation for this time will be handled. For example, it may require supervisor approval before an employee can begin work early or specify that all time worked before a shift must be recorded and paid in accordance with labor laws. The core function of this clause is to ensure compliance with wage and hour regulations, prevent unauthorized overtime, and provide clear guidelines for both employees and employers regarding work performed outside of scheduled hours.
Work Before Shift Start. An employee required to report for work before the regular scheduled starting time shall receive not less than four (4) hours pay at base hourly rate or pay at one and one-half (1½) times their base hourly rate plus one and one-half (1½) times applicable shift differential as overtime pay for such work is performed, whichever is greater. This provision does not apply to shift turnovers.
