Work BreaksMeal breaks 36.1 There will be a cessation of work and of working time, for the purpose of a meal on each day, of not less than thirty (30) minutes, to be taken between 11.00am and 1.00pm. Such period will be unpaid. 36.2 Where, because of the area or location of a project, the majority of on-site employees on the project request, and agreement is reached, the period of the meal break may be lengthened to not more than forty-five (45) minutes with a consequential adjustment to the daily time of cessation of work. Working during meal break 36.3 If the employer requires an employee to work through the employee’s normal meal break the employee will be paid at the rate of double time until the employee is allowed to take such break. 36.4 Where the meal break is shortened by agreement, the employer will pay for the period by which the meal break is shortened, which will then form part of ordinary time hours. Daily rest breaks 36.5 There will be allowed, without deduction of pay, a rest period of ten (10) minutes, between 9.00am and 11.00am. The times provides in clauses 36.1 and 36.5 are indicative only and subject to the reasonable operational requirements of the employer.
Work Breaks. ‌ 3.2.1 The daily hours of work shall be continuous from the time of commencement and shall not be broken except for meal intervals, which shall not exceed one hour in duration. 3.2.2 A kaimahi shall be allowed two rest breaks of 15 minutes each day, in the morning, afternoon or evening, at times specified by the employee’s supervisor. 3.2.3 Each kaimahi shall be allowed a minimum break of nine consecutive hours between spells of ordinary hours of duty. For those kaimahi within the UCOL division, the minimum break shall be eleven hours. 3.2.4 No kaimahi shall be required to work for more than four hours continuously without being allowed a meal break of not less than half an hour.
Work Breaks. All employees covered by this agreement shall be permitted ten (10) minutes in the first half and ten (10) minutes in the second half of a shift for a coffee break on the job during regular working hours. If extended overtime is required, additional coffee breaks shall be permitted during such overtime after each two (2) hours following the conclusion of each overtime meal break. However, for a compressed work week schedule, employees shall be permitted a break of fifteen (15) minutes in the first half and fifteen (15) minutes in the second half of such shifts.
Work BreaksEmployees who regularly use a VDT shall not be required to perform more than one (1) hour's continuous work at a VDT to the exclusion of other duties at any one time, and the College shall ensure that a break from the machine (which shall include the performance of other work), of ten (10) minutes duration, is made available under such circumstances.

The work break will not start until these refreshments have been distributed. Under no circumstances will any employees be allowed to leave the project site to which he has been assigned. Each Local Union will arrange with its respective employees the rules under which these breaks will be taken but whatever these rules, if the actual work area of the members is uncomfortable because of obnox- ious working conditions or inclement weather, these breaks will be taken where practicable in a heated shelter or a more comfortable area. On projects of more than ten working days duration, heated shelter will be made available from the first day. During overtime or irregular hours, the same con- ditions will apply.
