Common use of Working in Higher Classification Clause in Contracts

Working in Higher Classification. Unit members who are temporarily assigned the responsibility of a higher classification in the bargaining unit for six or more consecutive working days shall receive the beginning rate of the higher classification retroactively to the first day; or if this does not provide a salary increase, he/she shall be placed on the step which will guarantee a minimum of a five (5) percent salary increase during that period of time. This increase is paid only when the replacement employee is actually working in the higher classification.
