Denatured fuel ethanol definition

Denatured fuel ethanol or "ethanol" means nominally anhy- drous ethyl alcohol meeting ASTM D4806 standards. It is intended to be blended with gasoline for use as a fuel in a spark-ignition internal combustion engine. Before it is blended with gasoline, the denatured fuel ethanol is first made unfit for drinking by the addition of sub- stances approved by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau.
Denatured fuel ethanol means fuel ethanol made unfit for beverage use by the addition of denaturants under formula(s) approved by the applicable regulatory agency to prevent the imposition of beverage alcohol tax and conforming to the specifications of ASTM D4806, “Standard Specification for Denatured Fuel Ethanol for Blending with Gasolines for Use as Automotive Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel” commonly identified as “E100.”
