TMDL definition

TMDL means the total maximum daily load limitation of a parameter, representing the estimated assimilative capacity for a water body before other designated uses are adversely affected. Mathematically, it is the sum of wasteload allocations for point sources, load allocations for non-point and natural background sources, and a margin of safety.
TMDL means Total Maximum Daily Load, an analysis of pollutant loading to a body of water detailing the sum of the individual waste load allocations for point sources and load allocations for non-point sources and natural background. See 40 CFR §130.2.

Examples of TMDL in a sentence

  • The named parties, as stakeholders, have agreed to work cooperatively to implement the TMDL requirements.

  • Therefore, a sustained funding commitment will be required to continue TMDL implementation tasks for several years.

  • The Dry Nutrient TMDL requires implementation activities to continue at least until 2015.

  • On April 21, 2006, the Regional Board adopted Resolution R8- 2006-0023, an Amendment to the Water Quality Control Plan for the Santa Ana River Basin (Basin Plan), to incorporate the Nutrient TMDL for Dry Hydrological Conditions for Big Bear Lake (Dry Nutrient TMDL).

  • The Dry Nutrient TMDL requires the named parties to develop monitoring plans, determine nutrient loads from atmospheric deposition, develop TMDLs for wet and average hydrological conditions, conduct an Urban Source Evaluation Plan, review and revise related management plans, and ultimately implement best management practices to alleviate the water quality impairments.

More Definitions of TMDL

TMDL means the total maximum daily load limitation of a parameter, representing the estimated assimilative capacity for a water body before other designated uses are adversely affected.
TMDL means Total Maximum Daily Load, which is the sum of the individual wasteload allocations for point sources and load allocations for nonpoint sources and natural background.
TMDL or “total maximum daily load” means the calculations and plan for meeting water quality standards approved by the EPA and prepared pursuant to 33 U.S.C. § 1313(d) and federal regulations adopted under that law.
TMDL or “Total Maximum Daily Load” means the sum of the individual wasteload allocations (WLAs) for point sources and load allocations (LAs) for nonpoint sources and natural background. If a receiving water has only one point source discharger, the TMDL is the sum of that point source WLA plus the LAs for any nonpoint sources of pollution and natural background sources, tributaries, or adjacent segments. TMDLs can be expressed in terms of either mass per time, toxicity, or other appropriate measure.
TMDL means the amount of pollutants specified as a function of one or more water quality parameters that can be dis- charged into a water quality limited surface water segment and still ensure attainment of the applicable water quality standard.
TMDL means the Rock River Total Maximum Daily Load study approved September 28, 2011 by United States Environmental Protection Agency.
TMDL means the Total Maximum Daily Load analysis to achieve water quality standards for dissolved oxygen in Long Island Sound as established by the Department and as approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency on April 3, 2001.
