Advanced Index Rate Hires (external recruitments only. When it is necessary to attract the best qualified applicants to a critical position or when an applicant’s prior experience justifies, the Department Head is authorized to hire a new employee at an Index Rate equivalent to the third step (Index Rate 1.10). At the request of the Department Head, the Board of Supervisors may approve the appointment of a new employee at an Index Rate equivalent to the 7th step (Index Rate 1.30).

Advanced Index Rate Hires (external recruitments only. When it is necessary to attract the best qualified applicants to a critical position or when an applicant’s prior experience justifies, the Department Head is authorized to hire a new employee at an Index Rate equivalent to completion of up to two years of service (Index Rate 1.1030). At the request of the Department Head, the Board of Supervisors may approve the appointment of a new employee at an Index Rate equivalent to completion of up to four years of service (Index Rate 1.2160). A regular employee who is granted an Advanced Index Rate will continue to receive annual Index Rate increases until the employee’s Index Rate equals 1.2160 (equivalent to four years of service). At that point, the employee will not receive any Index Rate increases and the employee’s salary Index Rate will be ‘frozen’ until the employee has completed six years of County service based upon the actual SCD.
