Affordable Housing Objectives. In accordance with the Affordable Housing Policy 2009, Council’s aims in relation to affordable housing are to: Increase access to affordable housing in the Xxxxxxxx Valley by: • Collaboratively expanding social housing; • Reviewing Xxxxxxxx Valley’s planning controls; • Changing the perceptions of landlords and investors; and • Promoting the advantages of the relative cost of developments in Xxxxxxxx Valley in comparison to other local government areas (CVC 2009, p.11). Xxxxxxxx Valley is currently covered by six LEPs (Grafton, Maclean, Copmanhurst, Ulmarra, Nymboida and Richmond River) that make varying references, explicitly or implicitly, to aims or zone objectives that support the development of affordable housing. Council is required to review and consolidate its existing six LEPs under the NSW Standard LEP Template. In accordance with its Affordable Housing Policy 2009, this review will seek to include particular aims and zone objectives that support retention of and increase in affordable housing to meet the needs of identified target groups. The inclusion of such aims, objectives and related provisions give effect to several objects of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW) (‘the Act’) related to affordable housing, specifically:
