12.3 The assignment of duties to academic staff members shall take into consideration all relevant factors, including the equitable distribution of the overall workload of the Department or Unit and the full range of institutional responsibilities and workload of the academic staff members, as well as their individual preferences.
12.4 While the duties of academic staff members will necessarily vary, such duties shall be assigned in a reasonable and non-arbitrary manner.
12.5 Each Department or Unit Head shall make available to meet with students beyond classroom the members of the Department or Unit information on the process and factors taken into consideration in respect of the assignment of duties.
12.6 In order to promote scholarship and effective teaching within the University, the duties of an academic staff member may be adjusted by the Head (or assigned duty) responsibilities. c. After January 1 and prior to April 15 of each academic year, either party to this Agreement may recommend specific changes to the NTT faculty member Credit Unit Equivalency document (Appendix A). Both parties agree to discuss these recommendations with appropriate representatives from the relevant academic departments. Joint approval by both the Union and University shall be required before any change to this Credit Unit Equivalency document is authorized and implemented.
d. The University and Union shall work together to develop guidelines for Credit Unit Equivalencies (CUE). These guidelines are used to equate the work involved in non- instructional duties with that involved in classroom teaching (see current CUE Guidelines in Appendix A).
e. Bargaining unit members shall maintain a schedule of at least one office hour each week per every 3 CUEs of instruction. Office hours shall be scheduled to allow reasonable access for students and shall be posted. For in-person courses, with adequate, prior posting and prior notification to the implementation Department office, one office hour per week may be scheduled on-line in lieu of such changestraditional office time. For exclusively on-line courses, bargaining unit members shall maintain a schedule of at least one on-line office hour per week for every 3 CUES of on-line instruction.
6. NTT faculty members are expected to be available to meet with students beyond classroom (or assigned duty) responsibilities.
