Blue Gene/Q Sample Clauses

Blue Gene/Q. Title (Course Code) IBM Blue Gene/Q – Optimizing, Tuning, & Scaling Workshop Duration 3 days. Description The purpose of this workshop is to provide an opportunity for users (application developers) to learn how to take full advantage for their codes on Blue Gene/Q. This will be accomplished through some brief lectures to introduce different topics and as much hands-on effort with IBM consultants guiding the participants on their codes. This allows participants to obtain as much experience using the compilers, tools and techniques on their own codes as possible. Day 1 Compilers and debuggers. Some discussion on the overall hardware and software design philosophy that is needed to understand performance issues will be given.  Introduction on how to use the local systems o Login and local file systems o Scheduling and submitting jobs o Policies for allocation of partitions, timing runs and scaling runs o I/O and file access  Blue Gene/Q: Brief system and environment overview needed to understand optimization, tuning and scaling. o Hardware overview  Systems architecture  Host systems o Software overview  Compute Node Kernel  Execution process modes  Message Passing Interface on Blue Gene/Q  Global Arrays/ARMCI on Blue Gene/Q  Memory considerations  Other considerations • Input/output • Miscellaneous  Compilers overview  I/O Node Software  Blue Gene/Q Compiler consideration o Overview of the IBM compilers and linker  Consideration on various compiler flags  Where to start for optimization o What options for what impact  Hands-on – session o Get codes running o Experiment with problem size o Experiment with compiler flags/options  Debuggers overview o Compiler and linker flags required for debugging o GNU GDB – how to use it on Blue Gene/Q o Other debuggers at STFC (TotalView, DDT etc)  Hands-on - session o Use debuggers on some simple broken code o Experiment with debuggers on own code o Continue problem and code development on Blue Gene/Q Day 2 Profiling, performance monitors and on-node optimization. It is important to get on-node both core and the 16 cores to run well. Once this is achieved scaling will then be easier.  Universal Performance Counters overview o Hardware Description o Low Level Software API o Example Library and Program o Documentation & Discussion  Hands-on - session o Use UPC on some simple code o Experiment with UPC on own kernel code  HPCTool Kit or other Performance Tools o Over all discussion of the HPCToolkit if ...
