Chilled Water Pipework, Condensate Drains and Insulation. All chilled water distribution pipework shall be non-galvanised heavyweight carbon steel to ANSl B31.1. Pipework supports shall be at not greater than the following intervals:- Size of Tube Support Intervals 15mm 1.8 m 20mm - 50mm 2.4 m 65mm - 100mm 3.0 m 125mm 3.7 m 150mm 4.5 m >150mm 6.0 m A drain system shall be installed to carry away condensate from package air conditioning units evaporator coils, fan coil and air handling unit cooling coils. The drain connections shall be trapped and run to the nearest gully, soakaway or sump. Condensate drains shall have the same bore as the drain connection on the units. All changes in direction of pipework for drains shall be carried out with crosses or tees with plugs fitted in blank ends for rodding out. All equipment drains shall be adequately supported and run with a fall in the direction of flow of not less than 1:250. Pipework for drains shall be run in light gauge copper tube or appropriate plastic pipe. Thermal insulation shall be applied to all pipework carrying chilled water and hot water services and to cold water services pipework where it is exposed to the weather. Floats and final connections to sanitary ware shall not be insulated. The basic pipe insulating material used on all pipework shall be rigid preformed resin impregnated glass fibre pipe sections of the thickness specified in this clause and having a thermal conductance of less than 0.045 W/m2 deg.C at the operating temperature and a density of not less than 80 kg/m3. The insulation shall be covered with white cotton canvas secured by aluminium alloy bands. Thermal insulation shall be securely fixed to pipework and butt jointed between sections with the faces of the butting edges sealed together by application of non setting sealing compound. All adhesive and sealing compound shall be non-flammable. The insulation shall be purpose made for the type and grade of piping to which it is fixed and shall form a tight fit on the pipe after the application of all sealant and adhesive. Insulation shall be applied to flanges and pipe fittings to the same thickness and standard as the pipe to which they are fixed and vapour barriers shall be extended over the insulation without a break and dressed up to flanges and valve boxes. Thermal insulation exposed to weather and solar effect shall be additionally protected against the weather by means of an external coating of aluminium sheet of at least 0.8mm thick riveted into position and sealed at the joints...
