Compassionate Care Leave - Gravely Ill Family Member. ‌ An employee who is entitled to compassionate care benefits under the Employment Insurance Act is entitled to a leave of absence without pay of up to eight weeks for the purpose of providing care or support to a gravely ill family member at risk of dying within 26 weeks. The employee will be required to provide documentation to support his/her request for such leave. There will be no interruption in the accrual of seniority, vacation entitlement or benefits provided for under Article 25. This article shall be consistent with the benefits and conditions of the Employment Insurance Act.
