Definition and Levels of Engineering Tradesperson. Definition An Engineering Tradesperson is an employee who holds a restricted Electrical Workers licence, a trade certificate or tradesperson's right certificate and is able to exercise the skills and knowledge of that trade and holds a current CPR certificate. Levels Engineering Tradesperson Level 0 means: An employee who holds a Restricted Electrical Workers Registration under the Electrical Workers and Contractors Act and Regulations is allowed the disconnection and reconnection of existing fixed wired equipment (connected to a supply of up to 650 volts) while observing and maintaining the safety of the working environment and will be required to work under limited supervision of an Unrestricted Electrical Tradesperson. The work duties include: • determination of the electrical characteristics of the equipment • Identifying the point of isolation • Isolating equipment • Disconnecting the equipment • Selecting the replacement equipment • Reconnecting the equipment • Testing the equipment for operation and safety The Restricted Electrical Licence does not permit the holder to perform electrical maintenance, fault finding, installation, rewiring, alterations or additions to any electrical or fixed wiring. They will also be required to: • understand and apply quality control techniques • exercise good interpersonal communications skills • exercise keyboard skills at a level higher than an Engineering Worker Level 1; • exercise discretion within the scope of this grade • operate all lifting equipment incidental to their work • perform non-trade tasks incidental to their work • perform work which while primarily involving the skills of the employee's trade is incidental or peripheral to the primary task and facilitates the completion of the whole task.
