Demand Control Ventilation. The energy management system (EMS) was utilized to reduce the amount of conditioned outdoor air during occupied periods by implementing demand control ventilation (DCV) on the several air handling unit (AHU) and heating ventilating units (HV) at Xxxxxxxx Regional Middle School, Xxxxxxx X. Xxxxxx School, River View Elementary School, and Xxxxx X. Xxxxxxxx School. DCV adjusts the outdoor air damper position based on occupancy at any given time instead of at a fixed position for full occupancy. Carbon dioxide (CO2) sensors monitor the CO2 level to estimate activity level in the space which intern signals the HVAC system to adjust the amount of outside air to be conditioned for the space. To verify savings the CO2 levels in the spaces served were monitored in conjunction with the outdoor air damper position and the average damper position during occupied periods was inputted into the calc to represent the percent of outdoor air being condition. The following sections detail the results at each school. Total savings for demand control ventilation control strategy equaled $5,627 in realized savings, which is $674 in excess of the guaranteed savings of $4,953 (Table 48).
