Deputy Police Chief Assignment. 1. The Police Chief may assign or rotate one Police Captain to the non‐Civil Service position of Deputy Police Chief. The Police Chief shall be solely responsible for the selection and appointment of this position based on the needs of the organization. Appointments made under this provision are subject to review and are revocable at any time by the Police Chief based on the needs of the organization. The Deputy Police Chief designation is a temporary assignment, not a separate job classification; it does not have Civil Service status and is not subject to Civil Service selection procedures, appeals or seniority; appointment to Deputy Police Chief is not a property right and may be revoked by the Police Chief at any time. 2. Police Captains assigned to the Deputy Police Chief position shall receive extra compensation in an amount of three percent (3%) to five percent (5%) per month above their base salary. The amount of extra compensation for the Deputy Police Chief shall be determined by the Police Chief in his/her sole discretion.
