Extended Medical Leaves. 1. For personal illness that extends beyond the period of sick leave compensation (FMLA), an unpaid leave of absence may be requested. If approved, the teacher shall be permitted to continue in the insurance program during the leave until the employee has exhausted their accumulated leave balance. At the point where the leave becomes an unprotected leave, the employee may continue in the insurance program by means of direct payment of the premium to the Lake Central School Corporation for a period not to exceed the length of the approved leave.
