Common use of Extended Unpaid Leave Clause in Contracts

Extended Unpaid Leave. 1. Any Leave under this Article, beyond 12 weeks in a year, may be granted by the Board upon request of the employee. 2. An employee granted such an extended leave (I.1.), may continue participation in group benefit plans, with the exception of term life insurance, at his/her own expense. Appropriate arrangements shall be made with the Treasurer to continue in such plans prior to the beginning of such leave. 3. The employee shall notify the Superintendent of intent to return from an extended leave at least six months in advance but not later than April 1, if the intent is to return in September. If the Superintendent is not notified, a vacancy shall exist.
