Sick leave shall be used only to provide an employee with income during her own illness. (b) Upon request, (in advance if possible) an employee shall be granted three (3) hours (for which work has been scheduled) of paid Family Responsibility Time per academic semester to attend to family responsibilities. For the purposes of this provision, family is defined as spouse (or equivalent), child, step-‐child, parent or step-‐parent. Unused Family Responsibility Time shall not accumulate from one (1) semester to the next. (c) In circumstances in which the employee requires additional Family Responsibility Time (i.e. in excess of the three (3) hours provided in 17.04 (b)), it is the responsibility of the employee to make up for any contact hours and/or any student visiting office hours that were missed. These arrangements shall be made in consultation with their supervisor in order to avoid a loss in pay.
