Fire Fighting Pipe Work. Fire fighting pipe work shall be executed in accordance with the requirements of the standard, in consideration of the following: - All above and below ground fire fighting pipe work shall be of a material that has been proven to be suitable for purpose and this material shall be approved by the Engineer prior to execution (plastic piping is not acceptable for above ground). All above ground pipe work shall be painted red. All pipe work supports shall be compatible with piping material and welding of pipe work to support steel supports shall not be permitted. - All above ground deluge fire fighting piping and fittings (both upstream and downstream of the deluge valve) shall be galvanised steel to a recognised international standard. In line strainers shall be installed to protect spray nozzles. All valves shall be marked for flow direction, open / shut direction and function. All valves shall be fully accessible for operation and maintenance. Outside valves shall have weatherproof covers. - The use of grooved pipe fittings is only acceptable outside of the fire risk they are protecting. - All pipe work systems shall be pressure tested prior to back filling in accordance with NFPA or equivalent. All pipe work shall be flushed thoroughly from source to discharge before entering service. In addition, full flow commissioning tests shall be performed on each zone of the deluge fire fighting system. - All buried pipe work shall be installed with thrust blocks as required by NFPA.

In the event the Using Agency’s Program specifies additional commissioning services, the Owner shall procure such services as well. The Owner, through its Executive Administrator, may engage an independent Commissioning Authority. It is the intent of this Article that the Commissioning Authority enforce the requirements mentioned herein and certify that the systems and equipment listed all function properly prior to the initiation of each final inspection.
