In September, October and November of 2017 the foundation was laid for a team to construct a systemic practice that applies to all students Pre-K--Grade 8 in the usage of data collection paired with evidence-based practice and interventions that meet the indi- vidual needs of students. The team, comprised of a General Education Teacher, an Educational Techni- cian, 2 Special Education Teachers and the Special Services Director, joined colleagues from around the state for six days of evidence-based practice professional develop- ment. Our team received training to benefit struggling learners in both general and special education settings. We were charged with the task of using data collecting, imple- xxxxxxx evidence based strategies, and taking a collaborative approach to focus on students who are under- resourced, especially those who have behavioral and emotional chal- lenges. One of the first, and most crucial, parts of our training was to under- stand and identify students who are under-resourced. It is so very impor- tant as educators to know each child individually. We start by consider- ing the resources of each child. One of the first resources we consider is emotional. Does a student have a strong enough self-esteem that he can accept responsibility for his/her choices? Secondly, is the child physi- cally healthy? Thirdly, does the child have the skillset he or she needs for new learning, and fourthly, does the child believe he or she can learn and do what is asked of them. Finally, we take into consideration resources available to the child outside of school. The next task set before the team was to answer the question “What do we do now?” Once we identified re- sources available to the student, their individual strengths and needs we systematically developed an evidence- based practice (EBP) approach to build on individual strengths proven successful in reducing the impact of specific need areas. EBP is proven through rigorous scientific research to produce the desired outcome. On November 22nd, the VCS MALT led the teacher in-service day for all VCS staff with profes- sional devel...

INAC also still requires the original long-form birth certificate with the name of both parents and 2 unaltered/identical passport-style photos (if it's going to be a Secure Certificate of Indian Status). Original long-form birth certificates are available through Service Ontario. For an illustration of this new INAC integrated registration process, go to Page 20. Earlier this year, Indigneous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) changed the way children under the age of 15 years of age or dependent adults can receive Indian status. Changing from a 1 page application, it is now a 6 page applica- tion requiring more parental information including the need for both parents, the custodial parent, or legal guardian(s) to sign now. If parents are not together, it requires the most recent legal documents (like a divorce judgement, separation agreement, custody or guardianship order). In addition to this new 6-page form, INAC requires the completion of an addi- To obtain the aforementioned INAC application forms, visit xxxxxx.xx/indian-status or call 0-000-000-0000. --- Note: it is strongly recommended when a birth takes place that both new parent(s) fully participate in hospital birth registration processes so that long-form birth certificate be obtained when Indian status is being applying for. If the hospital birth registration process becomes affected, the process to obtain Indian Status becomes more complex such as having to pay additional processing fees, legal commission- ing of documents, etc. which delays a child from being able to access important services like health care, etc.
